Glass Exterior Sliding Doors

Exterior sliding doors – Windows and doors are the most common areas in your home that transmit heat in and out. In the case of windows and sliding glass doors, the double-glazed glass goes a long way toward saving heat and cooling costs. When replacing the glass is too expensive, adding a toned insulating film to your glass can help reduce the heat transfer in your home this summer. Most home delivery stores carry kits containing film, application spray, razors and rubber scrapers. Clean the inside of sliding glass doors carefully with a mild soap and filtered water. Scrape away any dirt or glue. Wipe the surface with a lint-free cloth. Avoid using wipers containing ammonia.
Measure exterior sliding doors glass with a tape measure and write down the mat. Roll a large sheet of window film onto a flat surface. Measure the blade so it is 1 inch larger in each dimension than sliding door. Cut the film in size with a matt knife. Blow all sliding glass doors with more soap solution. Gently remove the film backing and spray wash solution over the adhesive side of the film. Place the film on the glass. Hold the two upper corners of the film and allow them to touch the wet glass  the rest of the film will hold on its own. Spray soap and water on top of the film. Slide the film carefully into position as accurately as you can.
Rub the film out of the middle and outwards, push the wash solution and any air bubbles out to the edges of the film. Trim the film on the edges of the glass, using a knife or razor blade. Let the blade follow the edge of the glass. Cut from the center of the edge to the corners to avoid wrinkling them. Rub the film a last time to remove any remaining bubbles or water. Wrap a paper towel around the scraper to help absorb excess water. Allow exterior sliding doors glass to dry undisturbed for at least 24 hours.
