Installing Heavy Duty Door Hinges

Heavy duty door hinges – The step by step procedure for mounting a hinge on a door is basically standard. Since the hinges are interchangeable, you can change a hinge from left to right simply by flipping it over. A spring hinge has a built-in spring that closes the door after opening and keeps the door closed. Hinge tension adjustments can be made through the adjustment hole in the top of the hinge and the tension pin on the side of the hinge. Installing hinges seems like intimidating housework, but in reality it’s easy. Place the door on the edge, with the hinged door on the pole. This is the side of the door to which the hinges are attached. Measure the correct position of the hinges on the edge of the door. The top hinge is usually about 7 inches from the top of the door.
Measure 7 inches from the top of the door and mark it with a pencil on the edge of the door. The bottom heavy duty door hinges is usually about 10 inches from the bottom of the door. Measure 10 inches from the bottom of the door and use a pin to place a mark on the edge of the door. Insert a hex wrench into the adjustment roller on top of the spring hinge. Remove the tension pin from the side clamping hole. Turn the hex key clockwise to release enough spring tension to open the hinge. Insert the tension pin into the tension hole.
Align the open heavy duty door hinges with the marks on the edge of the door. Make sure the hinges protrude from the edge of the door when aligning the hinge. Draw the outline of the hinge on the edge of the door with a razor. Do not cut deeply while lifting. Tilt the blade and use beams of light directly along the edge of the hinge. Just make enough depth to create a guideline in the wood. Remove the hinge from the edge of the door. Measure the thickness of the hinge. Hold a chisel with the chamfered side on the edge of the door where the hinge is to be installed. Tap the chisel head with a hammer to cut a depression of the correct depth into the hinge described at the edge of the door.
