Installing Shower Door Hinges

Shower door hinges – The new anger for showers is a drop-in shower with glass doors like the Matelux doors. People are tired of the standard square fiberglass walk-in shower and welcome frosted-looking Matelux glass in their newly tiled showers. Matelux glass can be clear or tinted with an acidic etched surface. Knowing how to install the Matelux shower door will save costs for hiring a contractor. Check your wall to see if it can handle the weight of a glass shower door. If there are tiles, check if it is mounted on concrete board or Sheetrock. The sheetrock will not be strong enough to hold the doors, and you should probably install a box with a swing for the door.
Measure the opening of your glass shower door in three places. Take the smallest measure of one to use when ordering your glass shower door. The height of the door should be at least as high as your shoulders. Temporarily set the door in the opening. Place some half-inch wood shims in place under the door to allow the bottom gap. Make sure your opening is about half a inch wider than the glass door. The shower door hinges should already be connected to the glass, just mark the wall where the hinges are located. Use that level to get the door straight. Carefully remove the cover and set aside.
Use masonry drill to drill through the tiles on the wall. The best thing is if you can drill in a stud for the best support. If you do not hit the pin, use a wall anchor to keep the screws firmly in place. Screw the shower door hinges into place, but not tight, starting with the best outer screws and then the lower outer screws. Do not forget to use rubber briquettes against the glass the thicker tray for thicker glass doors. Stand back and check if the door is swinging properly and tighten all the screws properly, including the rear screws on the door part of the hinges. Install a sweep at the bottom of the door so that it goes 1/2 outside the glass door on both sides.
